A sole edge iron is a traditional wooden finishing tool used to smooth and refine the edges of leather soles. Over time, regular wearespecially walking on concretecan roughen the sole edges, giving otherwise well-maintained shoes a neglected appearance.
Crafted from solid walnut hardwood, the iron works by applying gentle pressure and frictional heat to compress the leather fibers. This process restores a smooth, sealed finish to the sole edge, bringing back the clean, polished look of a well-maintained pair of shoes.
Use the Crme Universelle, by Saphir to help soften the leather and improve the sealing process.
PLEASE NOTE: The sole edge iron is solely intended for shoes that have leather soles. It will not shape rubber-soled footwear, and the concave side is for sleeker-shaped lasts, not overly round boot lasts or sharply chiseled lasts.
